Wrote a Latin Exam

Okay, yeah. My Latin correspondence course didn't offer any chapter exams; just a mid-term and final. So, that means I have to write them myself. My students are so lucky!

Actually, I think they're pretty fair and I'm getting better at hitting 100 points. Tomorrow, they take Chapter 2 exam. Wish them luck!

Of course, the kids at TCP are absolutely brilliant. They don't always think so but I see it in them.

Las Vegas Leadership Summit

We're off to Las Vegas for the weekend for the Las Vegas Leadership Summit for Pre-Paid Legal. We're staying at the MGM Grand. And, ALVIN is coming! This is his first big event and I really hope he likes it.

We're leaving later today and will be in Conference Friday & Saturday; come home Sunday.

I don't LIKE Vegas as a rule -- to much stimulation with the cigarette smoke, casino noise and lights, and too many people. And, I hate how when you walk outside your eyes burn and sting from REAL light and "fresh" air.

BUT, our keynote speaker will be talking about Identity Theft. And I alway enjoy listening to Darnell Self and Michael Humes -- my upline Platinum Executive Directors.

Oh yeah, I'll be reading Wheelock's Latin book in the car!

4th of July -- Tucson

I know Tucson is HOT in July, but this is a bit nutsy! Nana & Papa only have a swamp cooler and the monsoons have started. Did I mention that swamp coolers don't work in the damp? I feel like I'm melting

But, it is worth it since I'm getting to visit my two favorite people on Earth. We celebrated Nana's 81st birthday with ribs (hello! DON'T turn on the oven when it's this hot!) and an ice cream cake.

Today, we escaped the heat a bit and went to the Tucson Mall. It's very strange wandering the food court and not seeing anybody I know. When I was at the U of A, I always ran into people I knew or at least recognized. Now, nothing. Even if it wasn't summer I don't know how many of my friends are even still here.

I found great sales at JC Penny and Dillards. Yeah for finding school clothes that fit and are flattering. I was especially excited to escape the damp at Nana's house for a while. After, Dad & I went to Bookman's and I picked up $40 worth of Latin books. I'm especially excited about my two teacher's manuals that I got for $10 each when I can get them used online for $25 (plus S+H) and $50 retail. I LOVE Bookmans!

While my folks and Nana watched the D-Backs ballgame, I worked on Latin. Proud of me? I'm having a tough time deciding if I'm parsing everything correctly. It's not in my teacher's edition since the course material doesn't really care about parsing. I can see where it'll be nice to know but it'll be a bit hard to grade if I'm not 100% sure of the parsing. Hopefully, when I get back, I'll have my graded lesson returned to me.

Speaking of getting back, I think we're leaving Sunday. That's fine by me: gives me three days to work on PPL leads before we leave for the weekend for California. I think that before we go, I might put my photo editing software on my laptop and bring my memory card reader. It's frustrating not being able to add photos to posts-on-the-go.

Latin Lesson 1: Done!

Who-hoo! I FINALLY got my first lesson for my Latin correspondence course completed. I'm very relieved but at the same time I'm an POed at myself for waiting so long. How ever am I going to get this done before school starts!?

I know the administration isn't worried if I'm studying just a day or two ahead of my students, but I am! I want to KNOW this like I know my Spanish. I actually told the teacher why I was taking this class; I don't know if that was a good idea or not, but there it is. I figured if I clued the prof in, then maybe C. Winsor Wheeler might actually help me more than just grading the assignments.

I've been listening to the Latin tape but I really need to dedicate some time to get it from audio cassette into a MP3 format. Alvin gave me all the tools to do it, now I just need to make it happen! Wish me luck, I might give it a whirl tonight.

Geocaching

Well, we've started a NEW family hobby. Geocaching! (pronounced geo-cashing) It's where you use a GPS to find the location of treasures. We did two finds on Sunday, one near Williams and one near Flagstaff. When you find a location, you log yourself in the book, take a treasure and leave a treasure.

And, if you're me, you also DOCUMENT the treasures with photos. I'll get those posted soon.

Right NOW, Dad & I are on our way to the very first Prescott Luncheon briefing. I've got a guest invited so hopefully, I'll get a sign up. I'm really excited to get my Thursday evenings back. And Fridays work well for me because even during the school year I'll be able to make it.

Speaking of, I had a nightmare last night about teaching Latin. I was totally unprepared, the class had no discipline or respect. It was nasty. I guess I'd better get more focused on learning Latin so that doesn't happen in real life.
